Support for those working with children and young people

The Mental Health Kitbag is Suffolk Mind’s programme of workshops, courses and resources to equip you and your students to take care of their own wellbeing – and that of those around them.

There’s a ‘Kitbag’ for all age groups, from EYFS all the way up to age 25, giving primary and secondary schools, along with activity providers, parents and carers the practical skills and knowledge to support themselves, as well as their children and young people.

The Mental Health Kitbag for under 11s

We provide a programme for primary schools called EARLY Minds, which can be tailored to suit EYFS, KS1 and KS2 classes.

Delivered in classrooms by qualified mental health trainners with primary teacher qualifications, EARLY Minds teaches primary age children about their emotional needs through stories, activities and movement. EARLY Minds enables both children and adults to learn to talk about and take care of their own mental health and to better understand how to help those around them.

Sammy the Sea Squirt Movement Sessions are specifically designed for EYFS, KS1 and SEND classes. These sessions are based on Suffolk Mind’s first story book, Sammy the Sea Squirt, which encourages children to link the benefits of movement with good mental health. This is an inclusive session, with movements that can be adapted for different abilities.

The Mental Health Kitbag for Young People (11-25)

Get support for your secondary school and college age students. Our young people’s team can come in and deliver a 45-minute class, or assembly talk, introducing mental health and emotional needs for your pupils, Life Hacks for Young Minds. We will talk about about mental health, sleep, and tools for overcoming anxiety and stress.

Skill-Shops for Young Minds are a set of practical workshops designed for young people, delivered by qualified mental health trainers. This workshop aims to equip young people with mental health awareness and practical skills, enabling them to look after their wellbeing as they mature into young adults.

Support for school staff and activity providers

Emotional Wellbeing in the Classroom is for school staff, to teach them the skills to be able to look after their own wellbeing, as well as that of their class. This course is for you as well as for your pupils. It will help you to manage the emotional health of the whole classroom, including both the pupils and staff.

Emotional Wellbeing in Children’s Activities is designed for people who run children’s groups and activities.

Meanwhile, our Wellbeing Culture Programme focuses on understanding your staff and supporting your leadership team to implement strategies which support wellbeing. Teachers will develop the understanding and confidence to deal with mental health in primary and secondary schools.

You and your school teams can also book onto a range of courses from The Mental Health Toolkit – Suffolk Mind’s workplace wellbeing training programme.
