Fire, glass and Lego walk raises more than £8,000
Suffolk Mind’s fire, glass and Lego walk has raised more than £8,000 for mental health.
Brave soles took on the daring walks on Sunday 19 May, the end of Mental Health Awareness Week.
A Walk of Glass and Fire saw 48 brave soles walking over broken glass and hot coals.
For the first time ever, eight junior walkers aged five to 12 also took the opportunity to walk over 20,000 Lego bricks in The Amazing Lego Walk.
Our Fundraising Manager Julie Long said: “The sun was shining for this fantastic event that saw so many people come together to put their minds and feet to the test to raise funds for our vital services.
“We were so impressed by the bravery that was displayed on the night. A special mention goes to those junior walkers who took on the hardest challenge of walking over 20,000 Lego bricks.
“All money raised through this event goes directly to helping us meet the increasing demand for our high-quality mental health support and information across Suffolk.
“Thank you to all those who have supported the event, including our sponsors A&B Glass, Suffolk Food Hall, who hosted the event, Pop Chorus for their wonderful entertainment throughout the evening and of course UK Firewalk who ran the event.”
Participants were able to take part in one, two or all three challenges if they weren’t put off by the ‘shards’ of suspense, as 75 onlookers showed their support.
About the sponsors
Dave Richardson (Operations Manager at A&B Glass) participated in the walks alongside four colleagues. Dave said: “We couldn’t pass on the opportunity to take on a challenge like this, while raising money for a crucial local charity. With a company name like A&B Glass, we knew some of our people had to walk the walk!
“It really was a test of mind over matter but as a team we faced up to the challenge and were filled with a great sense of achievement as we completed each walk.
“Whether we have struggled with mental ill health ourselves or experienced it relating to friends or family, it’s good to know support is there when we need it most. At A&B Glass we are doing all we can to better understand the complexities and broader subject of mental health.
“We are proud to have sponsored such a great event where our team even had the honour of being fire starters. Thank you to Suffolk Mind for organising such a fantastic fundraiser.”
Events coming up
Suffolk Mind are also holding a number of other fundraising events in 2024. This includes their Midsummer Celebration Gala in July and a skydive in September.
