Suffolk Mind offers a range of opportunities to join us as a counsellor, either as a volunteer, or on a placement.

About the service

We operate a self-referral, easy-to-access counselling service. Our service is for any Suffolk resident aged 18+. Clients come to our counselling service for a variety of reasons, but these could be relationships, family issues, personal crisis, bereavement, or other problems they may be dealing with. We offer counselling in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Saxmundham, online via Zoom and by telephone.

Counsellor role summary

If you would like to become a counsellor with Suffolk Mind, either on placement or as a volunteer, below is a summary of the main tasks and requirements.

Support a minimum of three Suffolk Mind clients each week, in person or online

Attend clinical group supervision, two hours each month (all groups are held online)

Abide by Suffolk Mind policies and procedures

Abide by BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy

Keep clinical records of clients

Attend all mandatory training

What we expect:

To be in your second, final diploma year of studies or qualified

To attend monthly clinical group supervision

To have your own personal clinical supervisor

To be a member of a professional counselling body

To have your own professional liability insurance

To commit for a minimum of one year
